Last week a friend passed away from cancer that spread to her brain. She was earlier diagnosed with nasal pharyngeal cancer. Treatment of cancer comes in two forms. One with the used of money, lots of money. The other is with limited amount.
With about RM50,000 you can get a ‘good treatment’. You will be attended to carefully and politely by hospital staffs. You will be treated with the latest technology available. You will be given a lot more hope of recovery.
The same patient who has less money, less than RM 5,000 for treatment, is more likely a genuine pig in the hospital. Even a treatable cancer becomes a danger. The treatment the patient is going to receive is mediocre, less attention from the hospital staffs or doctors or maybe even forgotten along the way.
Last week a friend passed away because she was not given full attention and mostly left alone in the dark about the disease she carried. There wasn’t much information for her to understand so as she can prepare herself personally as part of going through the cancer treatment. As just another patient in the hospital, she just has to follow instruction for survival. Some oncologist who worked on your cancer are more fearful of your understanding of his decision for your treatment than the cancer itself. They are easily intimidated by questions in regards to the treatment they decided for the patient. They fear you might know too much.
My friend passed away because she was not put on the right track to recovery. Her cancer was not a complicated one. She died because she maybe one like those who lost and forgotten along the way.
Juliet, God blessed you.
Note: Two years ago, I did a minor ear operation in a clinic without anesthetic and it costs me RM50. A week ago, I did the same with general anesthetic and it costs me RM3,000.
