My first university was a carpenter workshop. I was about 10 when I started to look into wood planing, jointing, sawing and painting. Two kind men, one was partially blind and the other was a great artist. My inspiration started there. They were the carpenters. My friends. My artistic friends. My art school started here. Though I was born with a pencil between my fingers, but seeing the work drawn by Effendy truly inspired me. His fine touch with artistry in both his drawings and woodwork never failed to excite me. Art never stop from that moment.
My second university, was a proper one. This time, I was exposed to a new world of sciences of water, fishes and aquatic ecology. All things that make you wet. Highly technical but creatively conservative. Here, I learned about being part of our Mother Earth. Swim with the fishes, stung by jelly fish, thrown into the sea and produced millions of aquatic babies….My body of science. The other part of my brain.
My third university was all pure hard work. Started from scratch and still remain a scratch! My company business. There is no rag to riches story here rather from hardwork to hardwork and more hardwork. First 10 years into business truly scrapped away all that I have in the language of science. Aquaculture. Highly technical work that requires in-depth knowledge of the aquatic world. The next ten years were very much into art. Designing. Designing artistic ponds or gardens came naturally like blood running through my veins.
The science and art in me had long been blended into one. It’s like sitting on a flying carpet.
